FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I do if I have an accident when flying my drone ?

If anyone has been Injured or any Third-Party Property has been damaged, please try and obtain the Name, Telephone Number and E-mail address of any witness to the incident. This is important as they may well be able to assist in the handling of your claim.

Under no circumstances should you make any admission of liability or payment or offer or promise of payment without our written consent.

Thereafter, please go to the 'Make a Claim' tab on our website and follow the instructions on how to complete the Claims Notification Form. If you experience any difficulties or have a question, please contact FlyIcarus by e-mail at claims@flyicarus.com or telephone 0203 790 7385 for assistance.

Are my flight logs / flight data required when I submit a claim ?

Yes, you are obliged to provide insurers with your flight logs / flight data for the date and time of the incident when you submit your claim. Failure to provide your flight logs may result in your claim being denied.

There are a number of 'how to guides' available on the internet if you need help downloading & uploading your flight data. Should your flight data for the date and time of the incident evidence that you were flying in breach of the laws, rules and regulations of the country in which you were flying, your claim will be denied.

Is there a policy excess ?

Yes. The amount of the first part of each and every Claim for which You are responsible is: -10% of the insured value of the Drone(s) and/or Associated Equipment that has been damaged, lost or stolen.

This calculation shall be based upon the manufacturer’s RRP, of the Drone(s) and/or the Associated Equipment involved in the incident, on the date the claim occurs.

How many claims can I have in a year ?

There is no limit on the number of claims you can have throughout the policy period. The only thing you'll have to do is pay your excess each time you make a claim.

Do you pay out in the event of a claim, or do you repair it ?

We have an arrangement with our exclusive DJI repairer, The Drone Doctor, who will assess the damage to your drone and report back to us. If it transpires your damaged drone is beyond economic repair, insurers will seek to replace your drone. If in the event your drone cannot be replaced via our suppliers, Insurers may decide to make a cash in-lieu settlement of your claim.

How long does it take to process a claim ?

Providing we receive all of the necessary information, including flight data, with the first advice of the claim we can normally turnaround the repair (including the courier to and from the Drone doctor) within a week.

The above is subject to spare parts availability. In rare circumstances the model of drone and the nature of the damage may mean your drone has to go back to DJI for repair.

Pay your Excess

Once the repair (or replacement) has been approved by insurers, you will be asked to pay your policy excess. This must be paid prior to the commencement of the repair or release of the replacement.

Your policy excess is 10% of the insured value subject to a minimum of £50.

We'll send your drone back to you
Once the repair has been completed, the drone will undergo various testing to ensure it is both looking and working like new again. When this has been completed your drone will be couriered back to you. Replacement drones will also be couriered directly to you.
